While my last pictures of the month were mostly from Asia i thought i choose a local bird again for this month. The common kingfishers in my hometown Munich can mostly be found during the winter months. They often perch on branches along small creeks to hunt for fish. If they sit with the bright blue back toward you they’re quite easy to find, but if they face you with their brown/orange chest on a branch with dead leaves, they’re almost invisible. Common kingfishers breed several times during the summer as their mortality rate of the chicks is pretty high. This kingfisher just caught a small fish in a pond very close to my home.
