Red squirrels are very common throughout Europe and one of the best known urban wildlife. They live in forests and green parks and feed mainly on nuts and seeds, but they sometimes feed on eggs, bird chicks and insects too. Red squirrels spend most of their life up in the trees and only leave this cover when passing to another tree or food source. In the cities they are widely distributed and this red squirrel here is our new neighbour, stopping by every other day. Last year it had its nest next to our balcony in a wild vine plant.
