Alpine Ibex

The alpine ibex is one iconic animal of the european alps. It lives above the tree line and is perfectly adapted to its rocky habitat. It can climb the steepest rocks to forage on the mountain grass and herbs. Males and females live in seperate groups most time of the year, only during matings season in winter they can be seen together. Males have big curved horns which grow a life long. Females have much smaller horns. The national park Hohe Tauern around the Großglockner mounains in Austria is a good place to see them, always impressive encounters.
