When the days are getting longer and warmer the first grass snakes appear from their dens under rock and stones. This is typically the month of June and this is also the time of year when they mate, so you can sometimes see five or more male grass snakes curled up on and around one female grass snake. On this hot summer day i watched a larger female and a smaller male ring snake performing a kind of mating dance. Absolutely amazing to watch.
