While on vacation at the Algarve coast in Southern Portugal in early November i had again the opportunity to go birding in the Ria Formoso National Park. Had nice encounters with shore birds and wading birds of all kinds but my most fascinating encounter was with a pair of little owls which were living in an abandoned barn just next to our B&B. They were pretty skittish and not easy to approach but seeing me almost every morning and every evening they got used to my presence and so i was able to get closer and closer every time.
