Golden eagles are the most widely distributed eagles in the Northern Hemisphere. These large raptors mate for life and build large nests in cliffs and other higher elevated areas to which they return for years to breed. With their powerful claws they are able to hunt down animals to the size of a small deer but their more common prey are marmots, hares and ground squirrels. I took this shot during the winter in the mountains of Northern Spain. For more wildlife from Spain click here.
