SEPTEMBER 2024
The Rocky Mountain elk is a subspecies of elk found in the Rocky Mountains and adjacent ranges of Western North America. It is one of the biggest land mammals and the antlers of the bulls can reach impressive sizes. As they are not hunted in the Rocky Mountain Nationalpark they are used to people and it is one of the fall highlights for wildlife photographers to watch and photograph the rut during September and October. The open meadows and the fall colors are a perfect stage and often create a beautiful setup for these magnificent animals. For more Colorado wildlife click here.
