APRIL 2023

During my last layover in Rio de Janeiro i was not only exploring the city but also some nature sites nearby. Next to the busy beach of the famous Copacabana is a small hill covered with tropical rainforest. While hiking to the top the sound of the city was exchanged by the singing of the birds and the call of the monkeys. On the top there is an historic fort and you have a gorgeous view in every direction. The wildlife stars are the common marmosets. They are native to the forests of northeastern Brazil but have been introduced to many other places in SouthAmerica. As they are used to people here, you can get quite close for some good shots. This female had two tiny babies on her back.
