DECEMBER 2022

The sun bear is the smallest of all bears and occurs in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Compared to other bears it has short black fur, small ears and a short snout. It is also the most arboreal (tree-living) of all bears. Due to food abundance all year round sun bears do not hibernate. Sun bears are omnivores and feed on a broad variety of items such as ants, bees, beetles, honey, termites and plant material such as seeds and several kinds of fruits. Like many other animal species too the sun bear numbers are in decline, more than 30% over the last 3 decades. Main reasons are habitat loss, poaching and human – wildlife conflict. This sun bear capture i took at Kaeng Krachan Nationalpark, Thailand. For more Thailand wildlife click here.
