The American crocodile can be found from South Florida and the coasts of Mexico to as far as south as Peru and Venezuela. It prefers salinity that’s why it is mostly found in brackish waters and lagoons close to the shore. The American is also one of the larger crocodile species, males can reach 6 meters in length and weigh almost 900kg, females are smaller. As apex predators they feed on a wide variety of prey including fish, birds and mammals. This large crocodile i captured while on a boat tour in southern Oaxaca, Mexico.
