Wild horses in North America are not really wild horses but wild feral horses with roots from the breeds brought from Europe to North America during the early settlements. These wild horses live in small herds from up to 15 horses in the plains and mountain areas mainly in the western US. Today they are being pushed out of most of the their habitat into small refuges and so called herd management areas. Farmers see a threat and a feeding opponent to their livestock and every year thousands of wild horses are being round up and brought to slaughter houses in Mexico and Canada. For me it was the first time to watch and photograph these magnificent animals in the area of Sand wash basin in Colorado. For more wildlife of Colorado click here.
