The hoopoe is an unique bird. With its long bill, the orange black plumage and its feathered crown it is distinctive! It is also an migration bird which spends the winter months in southern Africa. In its breeding grounds, the hoopoe prefers warmer regions and therefore is mostly found in the southern countries of Europe. With its long thin bill the hoopoe feeds mainly on all kind of insects sometimes on small reptiles too. For breeding they use old woodpecker tree holes.
