On the Western and Northwestern Pacific Coast (California up to Alaska),  there are three species of Orcas:

  • Resident Orcas: They live in large pods, stay locally in one area and feed only on fish, mainly salmon
  • Transient Orcas: They live in smaller pods and have no specific area and travel a lot in the search of food. They only feed on mammals like dolphins, seals, whales
  • Off Shore Orcas: They live out in the ocean and feed on large fish like tuna or sharks

Each species only breeds within its own species.
