Owls

People have a long and special relationship to owls. Some associate owls with wisdom, in some cultures owls are seen as a goddess and in some cultures owls are even the symbol of death. Besides that, these mainly nocturnal birds are perfectly adapted for living and hunting secretely right beside us. Their size ranges from the pygmy owl (size just bigger than a sparrow) to the blakiston’s fish owl (up to 72cm length and weight up to 4,6kg). There are about 200 different owl species and they can be found on every continent except Antarctica.
